Sisters happy with move from Metairie

“The best move we could have made!” That’s how Marlene Ruckert describes the decision she and her sister, Shirley, made to move to Christwood from Metairie last summer. The idea had its genesis post-Katrina. They were in their early 70s then and the cleanup effort was daunting. Realizing how much more difficult it would have been if they had been older got them started talking about community living.

Within a few more years they were actively considering retirement communities in and around New Orleans—at first, preferring a location closer to Metairie, yet not ruling out the Northshore. As they discovered, Christwood would prove to be a good fit with more of what they wanted: a beautiful campus with room to walk and enjoy nature, a neighborhood setting, quality home options, plus full health care services “so we don’t burden family members later on if we need care.”

Their next step was to join the Christwood wait list (Future Residents Club), requesting a ground floor apartment that would make it easy to get their Yorkie out for walks and playtime at the campus dog park.

It was Shirley’s idea to spend the night in a guest suite and meet some residents that helped them imagine actually living here. So, when a ground floor apartment became available and Christwood agreed to make a few updates to fit their signature style, they didn’t hesitate for long.

Now Marlene and Shirley live here and love it. Swimming and exercise classes several times a week are part of their healthy routine and the Community Center at Christwood is a great replacement for their previous community center on the Southshore. Other favorites include the food at campus restaurants, bridge and all types of entertainment.

WE INVITE YOU TO ENJOY A TRIAL STAY IN A GUEST SUITE. It’s a great way to discover Christwood! To arrange an overnight stay or request information about joining our Future Residents Club call 985-292-1205. ”

THE COMMUNITY CENTER AT CHRISTWOOD is not just for residents, but also open to members age 55+ from the surrounding area. To schedule a tour of our Community Center or request information call 985-292-1234. ”
