Fine Dining at Home - in A Community of Choices
Thoughts from Michael Simon, Food & Beverage Director
"What is your goal, what are you trying to accomplish?" I was once asked by Dr. Barnes, a Christwood Resident, who has served as Christwood's Resident Council President, in regards to dining at Christwood. "Fine Dining at Home" is the response I gave, an expression I adopted, after some reflection, from Steve Holzhalb, Christwood's Executive Officer.
When I think of Fine Dining, I think of many things, including: Specialness, Freshness, Surprise, Choices, Customer Satisfaction, an Executive Chef and Dining Manager who care and are in touch with their customers, Good Wine, classic Cocktails, Attention to Details, a Favorite Waiter, An Anticipation of my Needs, Crisp Service, a Unique Experience.
And when I think of Home, I think of: Family, Comfort, Relaxation, Laughter, Hugs, Children, Parents, Second Helpings, Beer, Sports on Television, Holidays, Gossip, Love, Security, Remembrance.
Combining both, Christwood Dining indeed creates a unique experience, one that seeks to find a balance between the specialness of a restaurant and the comfort of home. As well as one that is continually evolving, seeking to better understand individual preferences and to satisfy as many of these preferences as possible.
Christwood Dining has grown into a muti-venue community, and now has available: The Harvest Dining Room, The Atrium Cafe, The Honeysuckle Room and The Wisteria Room for daily dining.
For community-wide and private events, headed by our Events Team, we have multiple spaces available; including The Garden Room, The Garden Patio, The Harvest Patio, The Conference Room, The Solarium, as well as spaces available in The Community Center. Christwood also caters off-campus. It is indeed a community of choices, and private events can be as fancy or casual as you prefer, and as upscale or comforting as you prefer. Which is why The Dining Department's motto has long been, "Just Ask." The better we understand you as an individual, the better we can serve you. The Harvest Room - Fine Dining At Home
- Our central Dining Room, open only to Residents and their guests, includes a weekly Sunday Buffet, a daily Continental Breakfast, Monday-Saturday restaurant-style dining, and pick-up or delivery to-go service. Our Friendship Table is available to get to know others in the community.

Our open-to-the-public restaurant, open Tuesday-Saturday, with creative and casual fare in a relaxing atmosphere, which also features pick-up or delivery to-go service.

- The Market sells milk, juice, household sundries, as well as a hot Breakfast & Lunch.

The Christwood Dining Team is made up of a diverse group of culinarians, including our Executive Chef and New Orleans native Paul Meaux, and his kitchen crew, many of whom have culinary degrees, and whose loyalty to Christwood is most impressive, including Patricia Anderson, who has been cooking at Christwood for 19 years now. Some of our managers started long ago as Servers, including our multi-talented Event Coordinator Jason Weilbaecher and steadfast Dining Managers Travis Watson and Christine Donewar, the latter of whom started at Christwood in 1999. Our burgeoning Atrium Cafe is led by Dining Manager Annie Wallace and Sous Chef Frank Mull, both of whom have a passion for service and excellence. Food & Beverage Director Michael Simon was a former Executive Chef at Nuvolari's in Mandeville, and Dining Manager Liz Beter brings with her 23 years of experience from Coffee Rani in Covington. Christwood Dining is known as a Community of Choices, as our committed staff is here to bring an array of experiences and services to the community of Residents and Guests whom they serve.
